According to the switch when dealing with different operating modes, the main can be divided into two categories:

Storage Forwarding: The switch must receive the entire frame before forwarding and make an error check, and send the frame to the destination address without error. The forwarding delay of the frame through the switch varies with the frame length.

Straight-through: The switch forwards the frame as soon as it checks the destination address contained in the header, without waiting for the frame to be received or not for error checking. Since the length of the Ethernet header is always fixed, the forwarding delay of the frame through the switch remains unchanged.
